Water Facility Security

The project scope

There is a culvert situated on the northern side of the reservoir, concerns have been raised regarding unauthorized access. Our client deemed it necessary to strengthen the access area surrounding the culvert to meet the security standard of SR3. Previously, the culvert had unrestricted entry points, with two pipelines leading to the reservoir below. It was imperative during the design phase to carefully consider a customised design that could accommodate the presence of the two existing pipe outflows through any security gates that were to be installed.

The client engaged with Steelway and requested that we survey, design, manufacture and install a security rated specialist solution to solve the issue and secure the area.

The solution

Following the initial enquiry, a surveyor was promptly dispatched to the site within one week to conduct a comprehensive dimensional report of the requirements. The gathered information was then relayed to the sales and project teams, who subsequently generated a detailed itemised quote for the client's approval.Upon receipt of the client's approval and order, Steelway's design team promptly produced and submitted full design drawings (including 3D drawing) for the client's review. Drawing approval was received from the client less than two weeks later, following which Steelway immediately commenced the manufacturing phase and completed the project within the designated time frame of five weeks.

Throughout the project, Steelway's project team worked closely with the client to ensure that all mandatory documentation, including a quotation, detailed drawings, a comprehensive program of works, and RAMS for installation, were produced in a timely and efficient manner. Prior to installation, careful consideration was given to all aspects of the installation phase, including site access, laydown areas, crane access, risk assessments, delivery of materials, site preparation, setting out, assessment of manual handling, and installation of materials.

Steelway's bespoke security solution was designed, produced, and installed to meet the precise requirements of the customer and the unique needs of the site, all within the required timescales. The on-site personnel were effectively deployed within the client's cost and delivery timescale remit, and all goods were safely transported and lifted into place using authorised equipment and procedures, resulting in a secure, efficient, dependable, and timely installation.
